Karen
Payne, 57, of Charleston died Dec. 19, 2000, at home after a long illness.
She was a community service coordinator for Riverside High School, a
graduate of Marshall University and a member of Delta Zeta sorority, the state
curriculum committee for family and consumer sciences, and Boyd Memorial
Christian Church, Charleston. She was a former home economist for Appalachian
Power Co. She was a Charleston Woman's Club Woman of the Year, a teacher at
DuPont and Riverside high schools and the 1992 Kanawha County Teacher of the
Year.
Surviving: husband, A.B. "Jerry"; daughter, Angela Payne of
Charleston; son, Matthew of Charleston; sister, Katie Carey of Huntington.
Service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church, St. Albans, with
Randy Elsie officiating. Burial will be in Cunningham Memorial Park, St. Albans.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Bartlett-Chapman Funeral Home,
St. Albans.
