Carol Recco Picture from 1992Carol Frances Lawson Recco, 81, born February 9, 1944 in Kanawha County, passed away on Sunday, September 21, 2025 at Hubbard Hospice House, Charleston surrounded by loved ones.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Helen Strow and Carl Wilbur Lawson; her grandson, Isaac Addison Burch; as well as her sisters-in-law, Bonnie Sneed, Caroline McDaniel, Carmella Baldwin, Gloria Cobb, Sallie Turner, and brother-in-law, James Recco.

She graduated from DuPont High School in 1962; then went on to get her BA in Education from Salem College in Salem, West Virginia and MA from Marshall University College of Graduate Studies. She taught High School English in Eastern Kanawha County at East Bank and DuPont High Schools for 38 years and substitute taught at Charleston Catholic High School for a few years after that. She was a member of the Good Shepherd Episcopal Church in Hansford, West Virginia for most of her adult life and served as a member of the vestry, choir, altar guild, and Episcopal Church Women’s group.

She is survived by her husband of 55 years, William Recco; daughter, Rebecca Recco (Isaac Emrick) of Oakland, California; son, Richard Recco (Ashley) of Nitro; sisters, Ruth Legg of Garden City, South Carolina, Becky Hackney of Malden, Mary Robinson of St. Petersburg, Florida; grandchildren, Joseph Burch of Oakland, California, Olivia Burch of Charleston, Jonathan Burch of Spencer, West Virginia, Kaylee and Sarah Thornhill, Adalyn, Landon, and Evelyn Recco, all of Nitro, and Kelan Emrick of Everett, Washington and many nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, September 27, 2025 at the Church of the Good Shepherd, Hansford, West Virginia with Pastor Bill Sigler officiating. In keeping with Carol’s requests, her cremation wishes will be honored prior to the memorial service.
