Charles Brooks Watkins, 64, of Charleston passed away Thursday, Dec. 1, 2005, at
Marmet Health Care Center after a long struggle with Alzheimer's disease.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. Charles E. and Mary Alice
Watkins; grandparents, Fred Brooks and Minnie Watkins and William and Alice
Davis; and a cousin, Nancy Watkins Gage.
He retired as vice principal of
Dupont High School, was born in Charleston and grew up in Oak Hill. He was a
1959 graduate of Collins High School and a graduate of West Virginia University
and the West Virginia College of Graduate Studies. He was a member of Phi Kappa
Psi fraternity and the WVU Golf Team. Mr. Watkins was an excellent golfer, a
rabid Mountaineer fan and a basketball referee for the WVSSAC. Brookie loved his
family, WVU Mountaineer football and basketball and playing golf. He always had
a twinkle in his eye, especially when talking about his wife, Susan, his
daughters, Elizabeth, Christy and Karen, a great Mountaineer win over Pitt or
Virginia Tech or a good golf score.
Surviving are his wife, Susan Wagner
Watkins; daughter, Elizabeth and Gael Sullivan and their children, Gael, Michael
and Cole; daughter, Christy Watkins and Matt Taber and their daughter, Kara and
Richard Risk and their son, Liam; brother, William Hale Watkins and his wife,
Margaret Hess; nephew, David Brooks and his wife, Pam, and their son, Michael;
niece Nancy Pridgen and her son, Tyler; and cousin, Nancy Watkins Gage. Funeral
service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 3, at First Presbyterian Church,
Charleston, with Dr. Dick Neelly officiating. Burial will follow in High Lawn
Memorial Park, Oak Hill, with committal at 2 p.m.
Friends called from 6
to 9 p.m. Friday at Wilson Funeral Home. Wilson Funeral Home, 420 Lee St. W,
Charleston, is in charge of arrangements.
